About This Course

Malaria remains one of Africa's biggest killers, and South Sudan carries a high burden across all its states. This WHO-aligned course covers the malaria parasite and its transmission, clinical presentations across age groups, diagnosis with rapid diagnostic tests and microscopy, treatment with artemisinin-based combination therapy, management of severe malaria, prevention through vector control (insecticide-treated nets, indoor residual spraying), malaria in pregnancy, and programme aspects including drug resistance monitoring and elimination concepts. It is essential for clinicians, nurses, community health workers, laboratory staff, and programme officers.

- Recognise uncomplicated and severe malaria presentations
- Diagnose malaria correctly with RDTs and microscopy
- Treat uncomplicated malaria per national guidelines

- Apply malaria prevention tools including nets, IRS, and chemoprevention
- Manage malaria in pregnancy safely
- Explain drug resistance and surveillance concepts

Prerequisites

Open to all health workers and students. No laboratory background required; laboratory content is introductory.
