About This Course

Tuberculosis has killed more people than any other single infectious agent in history, and South Sudan carries a substantial burden worsened by conflict, displacement, and HIV. This WHO-guideline-based course covers TB transmission and pathogenesis, screening and diagnosis (symptom screen, sputum microscopy, molecular Xpert MTB/RIF testing, chest radiography), treatment of drug-susceptible TB, drug-resistant TB essentials, TB-HIV coinfection, infection prevention in facilities, and community engagement including contact investigation. It serves clinicians, nurses, laboratory staff, community health workers, and programme officers.

What You Will Learn

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Explain TB transmission, latency, and progression to disease
- Screen for and identify presumptive TB cases
- Collect quality sputum samples and understand diagnostic tools
- Support TB treatment and adherence (including the digital adherence toolkit)
- Recognise drug-resistant TB and its management principles
- Integrate TB and HIV services
- Apply TB infection prevention and conduct contact investigation

Prerequisites

Open to all health workers and students. The HIV course is a valuable companion, particularly for TB-HIV content.
